Country Singer, Grammy Award winner, Carrie Underwood stars in NBC’s “The Sound of Music Live” production. It is based on the 1959 Broadway show starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, but I would recommend the 1965 “The Sound of Music” movie musical starring the enchanting Julie Andrews.
The three-hour telecast of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical classic, “The Sound of Music Live!” will be broadcast at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Thursday, Dec. 5. TV/theater star Stephen Moyer stars as the forlorn Austrian, Captain Georg Von Trapp. “The Sound of Music Live!” also stars Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Christian Borle from the cancelled musical show, “Smash” and Laura Benanti.
The music and lyrics for “The Sound of Music” were written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, respectively, with a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The iconic story centers on a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer .
“The Sound of Music Live!” is executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford serve as co-directors. “The Sound of Music Live!” is produced by Universal Television.
